"WHOA..You Shot Those Pictures!!?"

I began taking photos of myself during my modeling career for a very sad and pertinent reason..

NO PHOTOGRAPHERS WOULD BOOK ME FOR THE MACABRE, ARTIST THINGS.

I once had a photographer (whom out of respect for him I wont name) actually said to me:

"You are beautiful with an intense look, but Black models dont shoot the kind of stuff I shoot."

Ya...he said that. Im thinking...um..Im a Black American Model and I wanna.
So, I started shooting myself with my very simple Motorola cell phone, editing in Lightroom and added those images to my portfolio.

THIS IS ONE OF THE FIRST IMAGES I SHOT, AND ACTUALLY HOW I MET MY NOW HUSBAND.

My now husband (together and married TEN years)booked me for a shoot based on my portfolio and this image within. During break time of our shoot took me to an early dinner, and he went on and on about my photoshoot with Percocet Push and how he loved this photo and I said humbly said,

"Thats me. Im Percocet Push. I shot that."

He couldnt believe it, especially after learning I shot it with my phone. I continued to shoot with that phone, adding them to my portfolio

During my 2nd U.S tour he booked me for another shoot. I extended my stay and long story short.. on my way to sushi with him I looked and in the mirror and said,

"Fuck. I like him!!"

Then eventually I asked him to be my boyfriend, weeks later he gave me my first camera, then over time, I continued to shoot myself in all the ways that photographer said,

"Black models dont shoot...."
and this happenened.

So if there was ever a moral here; there would be two.

ONE: Do not allow anyone to suppress your intention, with their lak of intention. Sometimes, you have to get things done and they can only be completed by YOU.

AND TWO....

You never know when youll meet the person your human. Be open to it, and never look. God and the Universe will dedicate when and how they find you.
